Aquaponics combines fish farming and plant production in one intelligent cycle. Resources are used again and again, and a single system creates new opportunities for agriculture and hospitality. Discover which solution suits your business.
With PROAquaponik, you expand your kitchen with your own products and new culinary possibilities – while creating room for partnerships, workshops, events and Shop-to-Shop.
See in just under a minute and a half how an empty barn is transformed, step by step, into a living aquaponics system – with fish tanks, filter technology and a greenhouse. With narration and subtitles.
Choose your area. You will then see exactly the content, examples and benefits that are relevant to your business.
Aquaponics is not just a new marketing term for hydroponics. It is a biological system that turns your fish’s waste into fertiliser for your vegetables — fully automatically, with no artificial fertiliser and no wastewater.
Fish excrete ammonia through their gills and urine — the natural fuel of the system. Species-appropriate husbandry, with no need for antibiotics.
Nitrosomonas bacteria oxidise ammonia into nitrite, and Nitrobacter converts it further into nitrate that plants can absorb — around the clock, without any effort on your part.
Vegetables and herbs grow up to 50 % faster in the nutrient-rich water than in soil – and filter your fish’s water as they do.
Clean, oxygen-rich water returns to the fish — 95 % recycled, with no chemicals, no wastewater and no ongoing water costs.
With PROAquaponik, you add products to your restaurant that can be produced right where you are: fish, herbs and vegetables from one shared cycle. In aquaponics, fish and plants use the same water: the plants absorb the nutrients from the fish farming, and the cleaned water flows back to the fish.
Fresh fish from your own system can become part of your menu, your specials and your own culinary line.
Herbs, salad greens and vegetables grow where they will later be used – with short distances and traceable origin.
Your own production creates room for seasonal menus, special fish dishes, tastings and changing offers.
Your guests don’t just enjoy the product on the plate – they can see for themselves how fish and plants are connected in one cycle.
Develop products and dishes that suit your kitchen and give your restaurant its own culinary signature.
A production system becomes part of your dining experience – visible, easy to understand and directly connected to your kitchen.
PROAquaponik doesn’t just open up new possibilities for your own kitchen. You can also share, exchange or pass on selected products to other hospitality businesses – Shop to Shop.
You decide which products are used in your own kitchen and which are of interest to partner businesses.
On average, it takes 12 to 16 weeks from the first site visit to the first harvest. At every stage you know what happens next, who is responsible and what is needed from you.
We visit your farm and assess the available space, power supply and frost exposure. This gives a realistic picture: what is possible on your land, and at what scale is it worth getting started?
On site · approx. 1 dayTogether we decide on the fish species, crops, tank size and budget. You receive a detailed construction plan including a parts list — the basis for your permit.
Planned together with youWe agree the design with you and the responsible authority before moving on to detailed planning — so there are no surprises later in the approval process.
Meeting on site or onlineWe incorporate any conditions or feedback from the authority directly into the plans, so that nothing stands in the way of a smooth approval.
Revised by our planning teamTanks, technology and grow beds are built on your farm — depending on the model you choose, either by yourself using our construction manual or with support from our partner team.
Self-build or assisted constructionHands-on training for you and your team: feeding, water values, maintenance, harvesting. You take over the system with confidence, not with open questions.
1–2 training days on the farmInitial fish stocking, first planting — your system goes into operation.
The big momentOver 4 to 6 weeks the system builds up its bacterial culture — we support you closely, remotely as well. After that, the system is in your hands: you take care of maintenance yourself, and if you have questions you can reach our team by phone.
Support as needed, no tie-in contractMeasurable benefits that directly affect costs, yield and market position — not in a glossy brochure, but in your farm accounts.
Cost-optimised plans and self-build know-how let you get started with far less capital than a conventional new build.
The system is biologically self-regulating. No fertiliser, no pesticides, hardly any water costs — running expenses fall for good.
Fish and vegetables from one system at the same time. Two sources of income — without buying more land or duplicating infrastructure.
No seasonal gaps, no weather risk. Year-round availability — independent of imports and price fluctuations.
The closed loop recycles almost all of the water. A clear cost advantage in dry regions or where water prices are high.
From the first idea to the ongoing harvest: advice, planning, financing, construction and training — all from a single source.
If you understand the system, you don’t need an expensive maintenance contract. Running it yourself reduces your dependence for good.
From entry-level system to commercial plant — any size is possible, step by step, without investing everything up front.
Regional production and complete traceability: aquaponic products command premium prices because origin matters.
No wastewater, no surplus, short transport routes. A strong argument for funding bodies, retailers and consumers.
Courses and support give you the skills you need. Independent in the long term — without relying on permanent outside help.
Your catfish becomes refined products such as ham or burger patties — extra value created right on your farm instead of selling raw product at market prices.

No business takes on a system it doesn’t understand. That’s why we explain the biology and technology openly — concisely, and without needing a chemistry degree.
Nitrosomonas bacteria oxidise ammonia (NH₃) into nitrite (NO₂⁻). Nitrobacter converts this further into nitrate (NO₃⁻) — the primary plant nutrient. Both processes run fully automatically, around the clock.
Fish prefer a slightly higher pH, plants a slightly lower one. The shared optimum of 6.8–7.2 keeps all three system partners healthy at the same time — a stable range that is easy to control.
With the NFT or DWC method, the roots hang directly in the nutrient solution. With no soil resistance and nutrients immediately available, plants grow up to 50 % faster than in open fields.
You don’t need to be a technical expert to understand the principle: fish and plants share the same water. The fish provide nutrients, and the plants absorb them and help to clean the water again.
Keeping fish creates natural nutrients in the water.
Herbs, salad greens and vegetables use these nutrients to grow.
The plants take nutrients out of the water and so help to keep the cycle clean.
The cleaned water returns to the fish – and the cycle starts all over again.
One cycle creates several culinary possibilities – fish, herbs and vegetables can go straight into your kitchen, into new products, into partnerships or into special guest experiences.

We have been working with aquaponics since 2005 and operate systems of our own. Our customers value our wealth of experience and the expertise with which we help them become successful themselves.
Since 2005, aquaponics has been our field – and we run systems of our own. Our customers value our extensive experience and the expertise with which we help them achieve success of their own.
After gaining extensive experience in various areas of industry and agriculture, in 2019 we decided to join forces and found PROAquaponik together. Following our vision, we are working to make the benefits of aquaponics systems accessible worldwide, so that people can be supplied with high-quality fish and vegetables.
The number of systems our customers build to our plans keeps growing — and we receive a great deal of positive feedback about the successful operation of existing customer systems.
We help to make the supply of fish and vegetables sustainable, secure and resource-efficient — decentralised, close to the consumer, with aquaponics as the best production system available.
We provide farmers and entrepreneurs online with all the information they need to build and run their own aquaponics system at low risk — multilingual and available worldwide.
Our system design maximises efficiency through the optimal use of physical principles and cost-effective components. Low investment, operating and maintenance costs are the foundation.

A management consultant since 1997, Manfred advises industrial and trading companies on sales, marketing and product placement.
In 2012 he founded his advertising agency in Upper Austria and, through his network, came into contact with three farmers who had run into financial difficulties because of falling prices. With his support, the families converted their farms into direct-marketing businesses — independent, successful, crisis-proof. Or, as Manfred likes to put it: “enkerlfit” (“fit for the grandchildren”).
Since 2019, with PROAquaponik, he has been delivering projects that enable farmers to produce fish and vegetables regionally and sustainably.

In his cookbook “Sushi aus den Alpen” (Sushi from the Alps), Dominik Edlinger shows how alpine ingredients and Japanese precision come together in an entirely new cuisine: SeeSushi. Regional fish from the Salzkammergut meet wasabi, miso and ponzu – honest, sustainable and full of flavour.
What makes it special: the recipes are deliberately kept simple and are suitable not only for special occasions but also for everyday cooking. Whether sushi rolls, light bowls or quick sauces – with clear instructions, tips and techniques, SeeSushi succeeds at home too.
Recipes, techniques and stories invite you to rethink the idea of home – mindful, clear and surprisingly modern.

General terms and conditions of PROAquaponik GmbH in the field of management consulting
This English translation is provided for convenience. In case of doubt, the German version is legally binding.
1.1 These general terms and conditions apply exclusively to all legal transactions between the client and the contractor (PROAquaponik GmbH). The version valid at the time the contract is concluded is decisive in each case.
1.2 These general terms and conditions also apply to all future contractual relationships, and therefore also if they are not expressly referred to in supplementary contracts.
1.3 Conflicting general terms and conditions of the client are invalid unless they are expressly acknowledged in writing by the contractor.
1.4 Should individual provisions of these general terms and conditions be and/or become invalid, this shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions or of the contracts concluded on their basis. The invalid provision shall be replaced by a valid provision that comes closest to its meaning and economic purpose.
2.1 The scope of a specific consulting assignment is contractually agreed in each individual case. Where any uncertainty exists or arises regarding the nature and scope of the assignment, the contractor is entitled to carry out the assignment at its own discretion in the interest of the client or while safeguarding the client’s interests.
2.2 The contractor is entitled to have the tasks incumbent upon it performed in whole or in part by third parties. The third party is paid exclusively by the contractor itself. No direct contractual relationship of any kind arises between the third party and the client.
2.3 During this contractual relationship and until three years after its termination, the client undertakes not to enter into any business relationship of any kind with persons or companies that the contractor uses to fulfil its contractual obligations. In particular, the client will not commission these persons and companies with the same or similar consulting services as those also offered by the contractor. This excludes services to which the contractor expressly consents in each individual case.
3.1 The client shall ensure that, while the consulting assignment is being carried out at its place of business, the organisational conditions allow work to proceed as undisturbed as possible and in a manner conducive to the rapid progress of the consulting process.
3.2 The client will also inform the contractor comprehensively about previous and/or ongoing consulting — including in other specialist fields.
3.3 The client shall ensure that, even without the contractor’s specific request, all documents necessary for the fulfilment and execution of the consulting assignment are submitted to the contractor in good time and that the contractor is informed of all events and circumstances that are relevant to the execution of the consulting assignment. This also applies to all documents, events and circumstances that only become known during the consultant’s work.
3.4 The client shall ensure that its employees and the statutory employee representation (works council), where one has been established, are informed of the contractor’s work before it begins.
3.5 It is agreed that the client will submit the results of the written reports to the client’s tax adviser and, where necessary, to the client’s lawyer for review and confirmation. The client will notify the contractor of the outcome of this review.
4.1 The contracting parties undertake to act loyally towards each other.
4.2 The contracting parties mutually undertake to take all precautions suitable for preventing any threat to the independence of the third parties commissioned and the contractor’s employees. This applies in particular to offers by the client of employment or of taking on assignments on their own account.
5.1 Where expressly agreed, the contractor undertakes to report to the client on its own work, that of its employees and, where applicable, that of commissioned third parties in line with the progress of the work.
5.2 If separately agreed, the client will receive the final report within a reasonable period after completion of the assignment.
5.3 In producing the agreed work, the contractor is not bound by instructions and acts at its own discretion and on its own responsibility. It is not bound to any specific place or hours of work.
6.1 The copyrights to the works created by the contractor, its employees and commissioned third parties (in particular offers, concepts, reports, analyses, expert opinions, organisational plans, programs, specifications, drafts, calculations, drawings, data carriers etc.) remain with the contractor. During and after the end of the contractual relationship, the client may use them exclusively for the purposes covered by the contract. In this respect, the client is not entitled to reproduce and/or distribute the work(s) without the express consent of the contractor. Under no circumstances shall an unauthorised reproduction/distribution of the work give rise to any liability of the contractor towards third parties — in particular, for example, for the accuracy of the work.
6.2 Any breach of these provisions by the client entitles the contractor to terminate the contractual relationship immediately and prematurely and to assert other statutory claims, in particular for injunctive relief and/or damages.
7.1 Regardless of fault, the contractor is entitled and obliged to remedy any inaccuracies and defects in its performance that come to light. It will inform the client of this without delay.
7.2 This claim of the client expires 6 months after the performance complained of has been rendered (submission of the report).
7.3 The client is entitled to have defects remedied free of charge if the contractor is responsible for them. If attempts to remedy any defects fail, the client is entitled to a price reduction or — if, as a result of the failed remedy, the performance rendered is justifiably of no interest to the client — the right to rescind the contract. In warranty cases, remedy shall in any event take precedence over price reduction or rescission.
8.1 The contractor is liable to the client for damage — with the exception of personal injury — only in the event of gross fault (intent or gross negligence). This applies accordingly to damage caused by third parties engaged by the contractor. Liability for loss of profit, lost savings, indirect damage and consequential damage is excluded. In any case, liability is limited in amount to the sum insured under the liability insurance.
8.2 Claims for damages by the client can only be asserted in court within six months of becoming aware of the damage and the party causing it, but no later than three years after the event giving rise to the claim.
8.3 The client must in each case prove that the damage is attributable to fault on the part of the contractor.
8.4 If the contractor performs the work with the assistance of third parties and warranty and/or liability claims against these third parties arise in this connection, the contractor assigns these claims to the client. In this case, the client will have recourse exclusively to these third parties.
9.1 The contractor undertakes to maintain absolute confidentiality regarding all business matters that come to its knowledge, in particular trade and business secrets and any information it receives about the nature, scope of operations and practical activities of the client.
9.2 Furthermore, the contractor undertakes to maintain confidentiality towards third parties regarding the entire content of the work and all information and circumstances that have come to its attention in connection with the creation of the work, in particular also regarding the data of the client’s own clients.
9.3 The contractor is released from the duty of confidentiality towards any assistants and representatives it uses. However, it must transfer the duty of confidentiality to them in full and is liable for any breach of the confidentiality obligation by them as for its own breach.
9.4 The duty of confidentiality continues indefinitely beyond the end of this contractual relationship.
9.5 The contractor is entitled to process personal data entrusted to it within the scope of the purpose of the contractual relationship. The client warrants to the contractor that all necessary measures have been taken for this, in particular those within the meaning of the Data Protection Act, such as declarations of consent from the data subjects.
9.6 The contractor is entitled to name the client as a reference, without disclosing any details of the content of the work carried out for the client.
10.1 Upon completion of the agreed work, the contractor receives a fee in accordance with the agreement between the client and the contractor. The contractor is entitled to issue interim invoices in line with the progress of the work and to request payments on account corresponding to the respective progress. The fee is due in each case when the contractor issues the invoice.
10.2 Any cash outlays, expenses, travel costs etc. incurred must additionally be reimbursed by the client upon invoicing by the contractor.
10.3 If the agreed work is not carried out for reasons attributable to the client, or due to a justified premature termination of the contractual relationship by the contractor, the contractor retains the right to payment of a cancellation fee as follows: between 4 and 2 weeks before the agreed start of work, 50 %; from 2 weeks before, 100 % of the agreed contract sum.
11.1 The fee is due for payment immediately upon receipt of the invoice and without deduction, unless special terms of payment are agreed in writing in individual cases. This also applies to the onward charging of all cash outlays and other expenses. Goods delivered by the service provider remain the property of the service provider until the remuneration, including all ancillary liabilities, has been paid in full.
11.2 In the event of late payment by the customer, statutory default interest at the rate applicable to business transactions shall apply. Furthermore, in the event of late payment, the customer undertakes to reimburse the service provider for the reminder and collection costs incurred, insofar as they are necessary for appropriate legal action. This includes in any case the costs of two reminder letters at the customary market rate of currently at least € 20.00 per reminder, as well as one reminder letter from a lawyer instructed with collection. The assertion of further rights and claims remains unaffected.
11.3 In the event of late payment by the customer, the service provider may declare all services and partial services rendered under other contracts concluded with the customer immediately due for payment.
11.4 Furthermore, the service provider is not obliged to provide any further services until the outstanding amount has been settled (right of retention). The obligation to pay the remuneration remains unaffected.
11.5 If payment in instalments has been agreed, the service provider reserves the right, in the event that partial amounts or ancillary claims are not paid on time, to demand immediate payment of the entire outstanding debt (acceleration of the debt).
11.6 The customer is not entitled to set off its own claims against claims of the service provider unless the customer’s claim has been acknowledged in writing by the service provider or established by a court.
12.1 This contract generally ends upon completion of the project.
12.2 Notwithstanding this, the contract may be terminated by either party at any time for good cause without observing a notice period. Good cause shall be deemed to exist in particular if a contracting party breaches material contractual obligations, or if insolvency proceedings are opened against a contracting party or a petition for bankruptcy is dismissed for lack of assets sufficient to cover the costs.
13.1 The contracting parties confirm that they have provided all information in the contract conscientiously and truthfully, and undertake to notify each other immediately of any changes.
13.2 Amendments to the contract and to these general terms and conditions must be made in writing; the same applies to any waiver of this written-form requirement. There are no oral side agreements.
13.3 This contract is governed by substantive Austrian law, excluding the conflict-of-law rules of private international law. The place of performance is the location of the contractor’s professional establishment. The court at the contractor’s place of business has jurisdiction over any disputes.
The contract and all mutual rights, obligations and claims derived from it between the service provider and the customer are governed by Austrian substantive law, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.
15.1 The place of performance is the registered office of the service provider. In the case of shipment, the risk passes to the customer as soon as the service provider has handed the goods over to the carrier it has chosen.
15.2 The court having subject-matter jurisdiction for the service provider’s registered office is agreed as the place of jurisdiction for all legal disputes arising between the service provider and the customer in connection with this contractual relationship. Notwithstanding this, the service provider is entitled to sue the customer at the customer’s general place of jurisdiction.
15.3 Where designations referring to natural persons are given in this contract only in the masculine form (in the German original), they refer equally to women and men. When a designation is applied to specific natural persons, the respective gender-specific form shall be used.
